Valuing Home Performance: Barriers & Successes in Advancing High-Performing Homes

Date & Time TBA

GBCI & AIA Approval Pending

Speakers

Casey Murphy, Vice President Customer Solutions, Pearl Certification

Description

We know that home performance adds significant value to a home in terms of added comfort, energy savings, indoor air quality, durability, and more. And for more than a decade, national and regional studies have consistently found that high-performing homes contribute to a home’s actual value (in a home’s selling price or its appraised value). So why does the on-the-ground reality feel so different? Why do your customers, local real estate agents, and appraisers seem oblivious to how your work can and should add to a home’s value?

In this session, you will hear from an appraiser, a real estate agent, and a contractor about the day-to-day, on the ground reality of how high-performing features are perceived, ignored, and properly valued by the marketplace, as well as where things are heading.

Learning Objectives

  1. Learn about the challenges that real estate agents and appraisers face when making a good faith effort to properly market and value energy efficiency.

  2. Learn the tactics that successful contractors use when engaging homeowners on the topic of how their work can add to a home's value.

  3. Learn about recent studies and specific transaction that show the potential of how home performance work can positively impact refinances and home sales.

  4. Learn how energy efficiency, renewables, storage, and smart home upgrades can impact home value and by extension, homeowner willingness to adopt.
